Shorten Your Links with Our URL Shortener

Boost the beauty of your newsletters with shortened links, save characters and track clicks

The free CleverReach© URL Shortener allows you to shorten URLs and insert them in your newsletters or social media posts. Clicks on the shortened links are subsequently tracked and displayed in your CleverReach© Report.

Additional Feature: You can also create QR codes!

  • What is “URL”?

URL is short for Uniform Resource Locator and is a term for the web address in the address bar of a browser.

When using this web address to insert it in your newsletter for your email recipients to click on, this is called linking.

  • What is a URL Shortener?

The URL Shortener is a tool to transform a long web address into a short link. You can insert the shortened link in your email newsletters and social media posts. When a recipient or user clicks on the shortened link, they are redirected to the website.

  • What are the advantages of shortening URLs?

Some URLs are quite long and don’t take up too much space after shortening them. This way, they don’t disturb the flow of reading and better fit into the body text of your emails.

Saving characters is also of advantage when sharing posts on social media channels, such as YouTube and Facebook descriptions or when there is a character limit, as on Twitter. It makes a huge difference whether a link is long or short at this point. Another reason to use the CleverReach© URL Shortener!

Please note: The URL Shortener is currently only available as a BETA version. Please contact our service team if you have any feedback or questions concerning the new feature.

How to Use the URL Shortener

To use the CleverReach© URL Shortener to shorten your links, start by logging into your CleverReach© account.
You don’t have a CleverReach© account yet?

Go to “My Account“ in the left navigation bar on your dashboard and click on the tab “Extras”. Click on “URL Shortener“. The URL Shortener screen appears.

Generate Short Links and QR Codes with One Click

How does the URL Shortener work?
• Enter the link (i.e. the web address) you want to shorten in the input field.
• Click on „Shorten URL“.
• Our tool then generates a shortened URL.
You can now copy the shortened URL and paste it where you need it. Even after posting, the target URL for the short link can be changed at any time. Simply click on the arrow right to the short URL and select „Edit URL“.
You can create QR codes with the CleverReach© URL Shortener as well:
• Click on the right arrow next to the short link – a drop down menu appears.
• Select “Generate QR Code“
• A QR code is generated.
• Copy the code and add it to print products.
QR codes are the ideal tool to connect online and offline in cross-media campaigns.

Preferred Links

You want a specific keyword in your short link? That’s possible, too. Please note that this is a paid feature and only available for customers in paid price plans.
Start by clicking „Generate Preferred URL“ right beneath the upper input field.
After that, enter the link you want to shorten just as described above.
Enter your preferred URL and confirm your input. Our tool then checks whether your preferred URL is still available or already in use. If it is available, generate it by hitting the “Shorten URL“ button. Copy the shortened URL and paste it where you need it.
What do you even need personalized URLs for? Because it allows you to use, for example, the URL “http://cleverreach.com/birthday” instead of a long page path with UTM parameters. This looks more appealing to your recipients. Unlike links with parameters or a short URL, the personalized link is not cryptic, but reveals something about the target URL.

Evaluating Your Short URLs: Track Clicks as Marketing KPI

Shortened links don’t only look better or save characters, they are also good for evaluation – for each channel! Find out exactly which clicks on your shortened links originate from your newsletter, Facebook, LinkedIn or other channels with just one quick look at your reporting.
The CleverReach© URL Shortener enriches your short link with tracking parameters, so it is possible to get click statistics for the different channels. By segmenting users per channel, you benefit from a more accurate traffic analysis.

Score with shortened URLs in print media

Short links are not limited to online use, a short URL or QR code is also beneficial in print – especially when you’re using a preferred URL that your customers and contacts can easily remember. People who want to visit your website because of your print ads don’t have to type in a long link for a subpage, but only the few characters of your short link.
A concise short link – in addition to a QR code – is also useful on a business card. With a short URL that is easy to remember and can be typed in quickly, your business card stays nice and clear, and your contacts simultaneously hold the key to much more information about you and your business in their hands.
